Sending International Texts on Shopify

Sending international texts (SMS messages) on Shopify is easy with Blaze SMS. What setup is required for international messaing?

With Blaze SMS, we pride ourselves on a super easy and customizable platform built from the ground up for Shopify merchants, by Shopify merchants. It is super easy to get started. Here are the things you’ll want to make sure of before you send international text messages:

  1. Complete onboarding, which automatically submits your new marketing phone number for verification Everyone that signs up for SMS marketing nowadays has to pass a third-party verification check in which carriers will look over your website, and details, and make sure that you are not selling any banned products, and that your business details match up. This process typically takes about 5-7 business days. This is automatically submitted for you upon onboarding completion. The entire process is done for you after onboarding, and you’ll receive an email when you’re verified.
  2. Customize your “Alphanumeric Sender ID” (if you wish) With international text messaging, text messages are typically sent via what’s called an “Alphanumeric Sender ID”. In which the recipient actually sees the name of a shop, or something similar, instead of a phone number, when receiving texts. This is because international SMS is often not supported in the same way as US/CA carriers, so this is the best alternative. Blaze SMS automatically sets you up with an appropriate Alphanumeric Sender ID that matches your brand identity. If you ever need to update it, this ID is always customizable from your Account page. We make this as seamless as possible for you, and you don’t need any special registration for this procedure.
  3. Run a test Once steps 1 and 2 are complete, easily run a test to your phone number through our dashboard to make sure that your messages are going through properly. Every event and text message delivery status is available at a quick glance from your Account → Sent Messages page, so you can see what’s happening in real time regarding your SMS program.

How much does it cost to send international texts?

Is MMS (multimedia messaging) supported?

No, traditionally the international carriers simply do not accept MMS. This is generally the same regardless of which SMS marketing provider you choose. What we do at Blaze, however, is automatically convert MMS into a graceful SMS fallback. This means that you won’t have messages failed as a result of mixing national MMS with international SMS in the same Automation or Campaign.
